Show had taken too much of her teacher's time. But how she longed to stay in the classroom with her and talk about pathways and climbing and basketball and poetry. To have these few precious moments stretch out forever. "Well...I guess I better go pack now," Kim said awkwardly. Good-byes were always difficult for her. .. "Thanks....for the poems...and everything," she said, turning for the door. "Oh Kim-" "Yes?" "I hope we see you again." "Kim looked back over her shoulder at Mrs. Parker and smiled. "Me too." she said. Through the drizzling rain she made her way to the gymnasium. There was no basketball practice that day and Miss Fites would be gone, she knew. In a way, she was glad. She hadn't had the courage to tell the coach in person she was leaving and now that Miss Fites wasn't there, she would have to write a note, which was so much easier than telling her face to face. It seemed so final to be dropped from the team when she'd worked so hard to make it. And when it was it whole life. But she couldn't put it off any longer, so she reached into her sweater pocket and pulled out a worn pencil. From Miss Fites desk she took a blank pad of paper and wrote out a short note.
