Show her, nudged her. "Good show," she whispered. Slowly, she felt her brain thawing, and through the haze she saw Mrs. Parker smiling. Her topic couldn't have been that bad. Hadn't Mimi thought of it? And Mimi wasn't stupid.. "How refreshing," said Mrs. Parker. Kim shook her head up and down. She was nodding out of relief and nervousness and also out of a small sense of pride that she had been so quick witted under such pressure to have thought of such a refreshing topic. After class Mrs. Parker smiled at her as she walked towards the door. "I think it's wonderful you're going to play for the team. It's a pleasant change to have someone in the class who's interested in athletics." Had she said she was going to try out for the team? That isn't what she said. At least that isn't what she meant. What she meant was that she was going to...what did she mean? She could hardly remember what she'd said. She'd been under so much pressure and it was all such a blur. The only thing she'd been thinking about was getting a topic. But obviously, if basketball was her talent, she'd have to play for the team. "Uh... Yeah," was all she could think of. She returned Mrs. Parker's smile and hurried out of class. 62 |
