Show 4.5.3 While the target sample size per focus group was six mentors, there were seven family mentors in attendance to the first and three at the second. All attendees were compensated by $20 gift certificates to their choice of a variety of locations. 4.5.4 An initial electronic invitation was sent out by IRC, for privacy purposes, to all Family Mentors outlining topics to be discussed, location, times, compensation, evaluator role, and a request for the time slot that they could most likely attend. The second phase was for IRC Family Mentor Staff to manually call the mentors to ask them if they would be willing to attend one of the Volunteer Focus Groups, from here the family mentors contacted the evaluator directly. IR C Staff Focus Group 4.5.5 One, one-hour IRC Staff focus group was conducted immediately after a weekly IRC Staff meeting on location at IRC. There were eight individuals in attendance, including: four case managers, IRC's medical manager, the IRC Family Mentor Vista Worker, and two case manager interns. One-on-One Interviews 4.5.6 The target number of one-on-one interviews was two to three with Family Mentors. Two interviews were conducted at the time and location settled upon by the evaluator and interviewee. Neither of the interviews took place on location at IRC so that · mentors could speak openly about their experiences with the Family Mentor Program. 4.5.7 The interviewees volunteered for the interviews after they were not able to attend either focus group. These interviews followed semi-formal and informal protocol, allowing for question and answers from evaluator to Family Mentor as well as open discussion. Surveys 4.5.8 There was one survey distributed to all family mentors who contacted the evaluator as a result of the initial invitation to the focus groups. Twelve were collected in all from an estimated 25 active family mentors. The survey collected both quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative section collected feedback from family mentors measured on a Likert Scale, while the qualitative section consisted of a set of open-ended questions. Observation 4.5.9 By attending a session of the Family Mentor Training, the evaluator gained insight into how the family mentors are trained prior to entering the program. 10 of 10 |
