Show 12 MR. F. E. BEDDARD ON THE [May 3, arises behind the superior and inferior mesenteries, and crosses over them shortly after its origin. In two out of three specimens the two mesenteries arose from the aorta by a common trunk ; in the third they arose separately. The succeeding arteries I have dissected only in one individual, where they were asymmetrical. Text-fig. 2. Ao., aorta cut short just after union of right and left aortic arches; a, b, c, paired intercostals ; As., azygos veil); J., jugular; oe., oesophageal artery and vein ; Jl.Scl., L.Scl., right and left subclavian arteries. On the right side there first arise two arteries for the ovary and oviduct; then comes the renal. On the left side the ovarian artery is followed by another trunk which divides into renal and ovarian, and which lies behind the renal of the right side. P ygopus le p id o pu s . I have examined only one example of this species, which was not injected. The reptile, however, had died in very good condition for my purposes, for the veins were turgid with blood. |
