Show 80 ( Figure 13 shows the decrease in the concentration of the South Arm, and Tables 11 and 12 show the chemical analysis of the two segments of the Lake.) Figures 14, 15, and 16 show the concentrations of salt, potassium and magnesium in both arms before and after the construction of the causeway. It is clear that, although there have been fluctuations, there has been a significant drop in the concentration of these extractible minerals. The increased elevation and decreased concentration of the South Arm are of major concern for the extractive industries utilizing that segment of the Lake. Several salt companies are currently in litigation with Southern Pacific Railroad concerning the effect of the causeway on the sodium chloride content of the South Arm. * For a discussion of the economic effects of the causeway, see " Extractive Industry," p. 89. |
