Show 164 view the Antelope Island development as part of a coordinated recreation program. Thus, the Legislature asked that Antelope Island and the use of mining tailings for developments be provided in conjunction with programs for recreational development. The powers permitted the division to implement these objectives and programs are extensive. The division may: 1. Acquire real and personal property by purchase, gift, devise, lease, exchange, or eminent domain 2. Construct, maintain facilities 3. Operate, lease or rent concessions 4. Deputize peace officers, protect state- owned property, and enforce state laws within " the area of its jurisdiction" 5. Seek assistance from other agencies in developing and planning uses of the Lake 6. Gather all studies, reports, etc., concerning the Great Salt Lake and the Antelope Island developments In this section, the Legislature apparently goes beyond assigning the division the principal state responsibility for recreation programs on the Great Salt Lake. The division is: To seek assistance from federal, local governments in planning and developing uses of the Great Salt Lake. All departments, agencies, officers and employees of the State of Utah are authorized and directed to give to the division such consultation and assistance as the division may reasonably request.
