Show 6700 Sterling- C 4690 what his estimate were. A The quieter part of the river is quite shallow, maybe only a foot or so wide; the rest of it would be four or five feet. Q You mean a foot or so deep? A Two or Three feet deep. Q You said a foot or so wide. A Yes, -- a foot or so deep; the rest of the river would be deeper, up to five or six feet, that would be where the main flow of the river was, of course. Q About the second feet? A The average velocity of the stream, I noticed at the time I made this strip, in the channel of the stream was about three feet in the quieter parts of the river; in the rest of it sometimes the water would be absolutely flowing up stream, sometimes be perfectly quiet, so it was real difficult to make an estimate without an actual measurement, but I think that six thousand feet is a fair estimate, and not an over-estimate of the amount of water that was flowing down the river about the first of June, 1908. I like to emphasize that in saying I don' think it was an over- estimate. Q You think it was under? A if anything it is probably a little under, although that was right at the low year. Q Test was time you started on May 27th, wasn't it? |
