Show OHI Sade Tannenbaum 7-24-84 s2:39 Montefiore moved to B'nai Israel. Was there a lot of switching over? ST: Yeah, there were a lot of them because their parents originally were from Montefiore, and as the children grew up Montefiore wasn't good enough for them. I think it was because it was more religious, more, it was actually more on the Orthodox than the Conserva-tive and gradually it was Conservative, and I don't think that they liked it and that's why they switched over to B'nai Israel. See, the Rosenthals, the old folks, were originally Montefiore. The Axelrad's were Montefiore. JK: And the young, was it a lot of it had to do with the young people? ST: Yes. They switched over because many belonged to B' nai Israel were originally, if they didn't .belong their parents belonged. JK: What's your personal feelings about, but now, having one synagogue versus. .When we first carne here there were two and I guess I just wonder if you, that was a good idea to merge? Or, would you personally have chosen to just stay with Montefiore? ST: Well, my personal opinion was that I'm getting older and it's up to the youth that we have to look out for. And if it betters the youth situation it should be that way. 'l";t. But I don't think it's turned outAthat way. |
