Show OHI Sade Tannenbaum 7-4-82 s2:30 in another USO? ST They weren't allowedin picture shows, either, or restuarants. They had an awful time. But they were all, each and every one of them, were lovely. And they were so appreciative. They couldn't thank us enough. So it was very rewarding. JK What did you do there. Helped with the meals, and getting them ready? ST The meals wereusally cooked on Sunday. But if they wanted a sandwich or a sundae, we were shown what to do with the--whatever they had there. We'd fix it for them. JK It seems throughout your life you have always volunteered and helped people who werein need. ST Yes. Andi've gone where pople--I've visited the sick and I've helped there. I did thebest I could. That's all. I feel gratified in doing thatretter than going. Anyone can go to a party. Anyone can go to a luncheon. Or play cards. Once in a while, I play cards. I don't mind. But for a steady diet, sorry, it's too late to change now! JK What other volunbeer work did~u do during the WAR II. ST Of course, we were very ~tive in the Jewish Community Center. We had all our Jewish boys there. We fixed meals for them there. Often times , the ones that were stationed out at Hill Field, in Ogden. We fixed probably something for Firday night and go out there. And fix the holidays meals for them. I rememberone year, a group carne mto the community center and kashered our kitchen there, so we could have a real pesach. And on top of that, some of our temple women took chicken noodle soup and drained the noodles and made knaydlach and that was pesach! This was our own Jewish women who did that!! |
