| Abstract |
In a series of three interviews, Sade Tannenbaum tells Joyce Kelen about her family background in Poland and her immigration to the United States at the age of five. She describes her childhood, various jobs she has held, Mormon attempts to convert her, and the differences between the two Jewish congregations in Salt Lake City. Other topics covered include farmily members, keeping kosher, Jewish communities in Kansas City and Denver, her service in the task of preparing the dead for burial, Shaary Tzedick, life in Salt Lake City, and Zionism. |

Show OHI Sade Tannenbaum 7-24-84 s1:26 time I wanted to go to the services. One of the neighbors was nice enough, she had a few children, z .. ~ said, "I'll take care of the children." When I brought them down there was another woman, she is gone now, too, -she sets there on the porch and said, "Sure, stepmother, what does she care, she has other people take care of her children and she's going. II That was the one and only time I ever went to services and left my children with a neighbor. Don't you think that hurt? If she had taken a knife and cut. But I gradually learned that you take care of all these things. What can you do? ST: So on the High Holy Days you went alone and your ST: husband stayed in the business? 1- No, he went to services. ~ot all day. He'j go at night. For Yom Kippur we'd go at night. During the day he'd come. It was hard. That was the only thing. 'Cause, I, you know, the holidays were a big thing for us at horne. I remember that Mother used to make new dresses. You know how you'd always them and the boys would have sornething?e~nd we'd stand in ..PJ line to be kissed. We wern't a I before going to shul we had our kiss. Which was very nice. You kissing family, but kiss, our y~-Nft don't have to be mushy, mushy, you know, and then turn around and fight and stick daggers through one. We had a nice) |
