| Abstract |
In a series of three interviews, Sade Tannenbaum tells Joyce Kelen about her family background in Poland and her immigration to the United States at the age of five. She describes her childhood, various jobs she has held, Mormon attempts to convert her, and the differences between the two Jewish congregations in Salt Lake City. Other topics covered include farmily members, keeping kosher, Jewish communities in Kansas City and Denver, her service in the task of preparing the dead for burial, Shaary Tzedick, life in Salt Lake City, and Zionism. |

Show OHI Sade Tannenbaum 7-24-84 s1:27 nice home life. We weren't rich. We were poor actually, because my mother, when she did for outsiders, she'd cook and take all the food to whoever needed it. If we had a slice of bread for each one of us, that~ ~~· ; ,·__ all right. So it was a good beginning, good home life. We didn't know of the Jones and the Smiths like today that one tries to outdo the other. ST: So that's what you tried to do when you became a mother, the same thing? So what's been hard when you saw the families around you, or even your brother-in-law, were not as helpful as you. ST: Yeah. But, as I say, we made it. It was all right. It was a struggle for many years, but. JK: Thank God. ST: The children, the only thing that, the oldest son dying. See, that was the three-year-old. He died eleven years ago, that was a bombshell, too much of one. That's /f' :; Charlene's father. Do you know Charlene?
