And, I tried to get him on at the mill. And they said, no, they just weren 't hiring. And this friend of mine, this Wimmer, I tell you about him -- he was President of the Union at the Pow8r H0use. I mean, this is the ideal place for a young man to work. Is at the power house . Because it's all electrivity, you know. They run the whole power - through all the mills , Kennecott . So - Wimmer was sitting there, we were talking. And the phone rang and it was this hiring boss up at Kenne-cott and he said, "I'm sorry we just can't hire . We've got too many people on the list. You'll just have to put your boy's name down . And if we ever get to him, which is doubtful , we '11 hire h im. "And I CBaid, "Hell , I guess we ought to foget it." And Wimmer says, "You want Steve to work for Kennecott." "God, Stevie- you go get married, the kid's going to get rarried. I can't talk him out of it. And he needs a job." He says, "Well, I 'll give him one up at the power house. " I thought it was just idle -- LK Chatter. SM CHatter. Yeah. Sol come home the bext day. The phone rings. He says, Hey, Sid. Send your boy up - Arthur Mill to get his physical. He's j ust been hired at the powerhouse. Andso I called Steve down at the service station. He went up there. Too~·. . his physical and he went to work the next day up at the powerhouse. And - his career , you know. He went --They sent him to school. |
