Matz (b. 1919) talks about his family background in Russia, the pogroms that took place there, his mother's immigration to the United States, his father's business, the Ku Klux Klan, and anti-Semitism in Magna, Utah. He also talks about the Greek unions, working for Kennecott during the Depression, school prayer, his lack of Jewish identity, and his father. He also touches on Hitler and World War II, life after the war, discrimination, and his years at Kennecott. 95 pages. |

That's what LK So when a person says this kind of thing to you: "Don 't act Jewish." SM He says Jewish, t hre's nothing wrong with being Jewish. But, what he was referring to is you don 't act like a Jew the way people - just like don't act like a Black what are they refering to - step and fetch. See what I mean. That's what is. That's what - the Christian things - rather the white things of a black - and the christian things of a Jews - is give me your money, see what I mean. LK Yeah. [theytalk together] LK But 90% of Jews don't-- SM But --NO. But this is what people think the Jews actlike. SO, as long as you 're not going around rubbing your hands, with the money , this and that, you 're not acting Jewish. SO, being a Jew could be a -- Be a Jew but don't be a - the I don't know. You know. Ah. I've seen it in the Jewish people. I'm Jewish. No matter where I go, I tell everyone . Before they can come out and say something about a Jew, I always -- whenever any - body's ever said something about a Jew , about the Jew -- when I've been around , I've always went up and say, "Look, I'm Jewish. |
