Show IVERSITY OF VTAH •¦,. DUNHAM HUGHES THOMAS DELDUKE LINDEMAN ROBINSON BOXING and WRESTLING BOXING has won a permanent place in the athletic curriculum of the University of Utah. The popularity of the art of self-defense has greatly increased since the sport was introduced a few months ago. Under the direction of Mack Dalton, an expert instructor, several large classes in boxing have been conducted several times a week. Lack of funds nearly resulted in the abandonment of boxing this quarter, but through a donation of $150 by Hardy K. Downing, regular classes will be conducted throughout the spring quarter. Downing is of the opinion that if properly encouraged, the art of self-defense will soon take its place among the leading sports at the university. A donation is expected from the athletic council in the near future. Wrestling is also arousing its share of interest. Cliff Dunham, who has held the intercollegiate wrestling championship of Texas, has been showing the wrestlers many of the tricks of the sport. Many of the students are taking both wrestling and boxing. Several exhibitions have been given at the university, and each time the performers displayed more than ordinary ability. Paye 138 |
