Show VNIVERSITY OF VTAH THE 1920 BASEBALL SEASON f I VHE baseball season opened with the Crimson nine composed of vet--"- erans of teams of former years. Carlson and Thornberg, pitchers, with an infield composed of Adams, Stiefel, Romney and Wilson, started the Red and White, steam roller-like, on its way to victory. The Cummings Field schedule opened with a victory over Provo which netted the Crimson a 15 to 3 score Oswald, Adams and Romney succeeding each other, scored home runs in the fourth inning, forcefully vanquishing Provo pitchers. A journey to Logan inflicted the first defeat upon the Varsity players. The Red and White failed to measure up to the form of the previous week, and due to ragged playing, an to 8 score was registered with Utah on the short end. Back in the home lot some real opposition was developed when the Twenty-First Infantry held the score to 6-5, giving the Utah players but a one-point margin. The LD S.U. was met and successfully vanquished. The State Championship was lost when the Aggies humbled the Crimson on Cummings Field, score 19 to 17. The Aggies put forth their best efforts and avenged for former Crimson victories. The curtain was lowered on the 1920 baseball season with games against California and B.Y.U. The Crimson was overwhelmed by California with a score of 12 to 5, but rose again to victory over the B.Y.U., 15 to o. Page 128 |
