Show SOPHOMORE HISTORY THE first event of the year in the activities of the Sophomore class was the piling of logs at the foot of the block "U" for the annual pilgrimage to the "U". Here the Sophs surpassed themselves, much to the chagrin of the Freshmen, and accomplished even more than they set out to do. As usual when there is anything going off" in either the Sophomore or Freshman classes, the logs caused a general reception and tea party on the "Ad" steps. The underclassmen spoiled it all by having a general mix-up and get-acquainted, but outside of a few minor injuries the party survived. The pushball contest, which was the next thing on the program, ended in a complete victory for the Sophomores. Sophomore influence permeated the atmosphere of the first Freshman party. x*\t the Sophomore party remarkable strategy was demonstrated in thwarting the designs of the ambitious "Frosh". About the time of the Freshman Sirkus (which the Sophomores loyally attended) a plan was devised for entertaining the Freshman president at an informal house party to be given by some of the "Sophs". Their efforts were quite unappreciated, however. In fact there was an attempt on the part of some people to misconstrue their motives entirely. This resulted in their appearance "at court", which brought some later discomfiture. February the eleventh, the Sophomores entertained the student body at a Cabaret dance. The service, the entertainment and the fun were furnished by various members of the class. The class of '23 is noted for its athletic abilities. They easily defeated the " Frosh " in baseball, and the tug o' war on " U " day was a splashing success. Page 75 |
