She must attend teachers' meetings, county and State institutes, end keep in close touch with all the methods of teaching if she remains in the public schodl work, and I think teachers in Indian schools should do the same. IIPORTANCE OP RELlGIOUB TRdlMNR IN OUR 8CAOOLS. Rev. E. W. St. Pierre, Salem, 0reg.-It is important that religion, not dogmas, be taught in our schools. There is a wide differencebetween dogmas and religion. The patrons of our schooh differ in creeds and the sohools must be nonsecretarian. PLEA FOR FEE BED MAN. Ex-Gove~norJ . F. Fletcher. Jefferson. HOW CAN TEACHERS IN TBE BERVlCB KEEP IN TOUCH VITA 81mmR I-8 OI. WOBE OUTBID=? HOW CAN TKEY BEST BEEP IR TOVCE WTE COUNTY AND 8TATE PROWESS AND ORDANmATION7 Clamnee L. Gates, teacher, Siletz Indian School, Oregon.-To the first question I would eay that almost the only meam for teachers in isolated places, where Indian schools &re mostly situated, to keep in touch with similar work outside is through educational pe,pers. Teachers should also select and adapt methods to meet the needs of the Indian schools. Much benefit can be derived from visiting sohools in the locdity and seeing the work done in them. If teachers have friends who are teaching, they can and often do exchange idem by correspondence. A plan which we adopted and found helpful was to get our school in correspondence with 8. school outside the Indian Service. We exchanged objects far nature study and lettern and papers from pupils. The second queation an this subject can be answered brid By extending county snd $tat! institutes and m e e t i i of teaohem' mooiatiom. @t means of kaeping ia |
