As the logging operations conducted during former seasons had been profitable to the Indians, the continuance of logging during the season of 1904-5 was authorized in aceordance with the regulations approved by the President on September 3, 1902, prescribed under the act of February 16, 1889 (25 Stat. L., 673). LAXD8 ALLOTTED CHIPPEWA INDIANS M MINXESOTA. The act of April 21, 1904 ( 3 i Stat. L., IS@), contains the follow-ing in regard to the disposition of timber on lands allotted the Chippewa Indians in Minnesota : The Chippewa Indians of the State of Minnesota to whom allotments have been or shall hereafter be made, and trust or other patents, containing restrio tions upon alienation Issued or which shall hereafter be iswed therefor are, with the consent of the Secretary of the Interior and under such rules and regulations as he may prescribe, hereby authorized to dispose of the timber on their respective allotments. Timber on the allotments of mlnors may likewise be sold by the father, mother, or Indlan agent, or other omcer in charge, in the order named, and the Secretary of the Interior shall make such regulations for the disposition of the proceeds of safd sales as may be necessary to protect the interest of sald Indians, including such minors. |
