In 1849, Dr. Pilate, of Ope-lotsas, Louisiana, sent a specimen, shot in his vicinity, to the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, which was announced by Mr. Cassin as new to our fauna. The species was. first founded on specimens obtained by. King, in the Straits of Magellan. It frequents the coast of Chili, whence specimens have been sent by Lieutenant J. M. Oilliss. |
