NOOK HALT- About two miles below the " Court House," in the hills. Road has departed, most of the way, from the river banks from one to three miles, but here touches the right biurt. ELK CHIEK- Bed 20 feet by J foot Flows from the south- west. Rises in a valley behind Chimney- rock bluffs and ridge/ PLATTE- Camp No, 38- Good grass along this part of the bottom; fuel scarce. Water a short distance to south, in pools. BLUFFS- Ascend about 60 feet above the river, and keep at this deration for two miles. CAJIP NO. 89- On bank of Platte. Fuel difficult to find... ASH HOLLOW- The road continues at foot of bluffs; heavy sand* Cedars, in the hills, for camping purposes. Ash Hollow has abundance of ash and poplar wood; u small stream in the bottom. Here the road leaves for the South Fork, and the ridge is crossed by several tracks; one leads to the junction of tne two forks, ours to the upper crossing . of the Si> uth Fork. MEKIDIAN- At the Ust point, for water, atlhis season FOBD- Camp No* 40- Upper forij. For one and a half miles gentle ascent, in hollow; then a long, steep hill to ascend; thence fine road to the ford, last mile descending.
