The happy consequences of this system of united and well- directed action, under one leading and controlling mind, is most prominently apparent in the erection of public buildings, opening of roads, the construction of bridges, and the preparation of the country for the speedy occupation of a large end rapidly growing population, shortly to be still further augmented by an immigration even now on their* toay, from almost every couhtry in Europe. Upon the personal character of the leader of this singular people, it inay not, perhaps, be proper lor me to comment in a communication like the present. I may nevertheless be pardoned for saying, |
