Show Trace takes the north- east branch, and joins, near the Platte River. CDAL R root- Up the left bank, and across a ridge, with coal cropping ouL The road can follow the level ground. To follow the creek from this hill, prolong the distance, bot the crossing is very difficult on account of eteep clay- banks. Noo>- The meridian abservatian gives position iiTlatitude...... EAST FOHK- Camp No. 15- Grass good, and large sage for fuel. Page hens abundant, and antelope plenty. SPSJUO BLUFF- Noon halt- Small streams from springs on south- east enter the main branch in this vicinity. SUMMIT- Leaving Bitter Creek waters, pass up a gentle slope to summit. HAT- STACK- A beacon 120 feet high, of clay, standing apart from larger plateaus on the south and east. SPRINGS-<_• amp No- 16- Alkaline water; head of Bridgets Fork. This water is butvly drinkable for mail or beast. Sage- brush furnishes the fuel, and JH- URS very thin. PtAtvs- At west side of the plains of MixMy Creek, RIDOI- Soon halt- On » low ridge from the north. The road is very good, over gra^ y plains and buffalo ranges. JtftiDDY CBLE « K- Camp No. 17- A branch of Little Snake River. The road should pass to the south* wound a rid go which has a steep descent on the east side. Very soon wo enter the katiyon, where the road is on narrow table- laud, at the foot of steep hills and rocks. KAKTON or MUDDY CBIIK- Road easily made practicable. Cherries and currants abundant in the fruit season. BXAYIU DAMS- Camp No. 18- Small prairie with good grass. Cattle can be easily guarded, FreBh dams seen here in considerable numbers. Several gullies to cross to- day. Aspen, service- berry, cherry, and on the escarpment, cedar trees and boshes.
