La ciudad cle l\16- xico, dentro de Ia linea interior de atrincheramicntos que Ia circundan, queda comprendida en la preccdentc estipnlacion, en lo que toea a la devolucion de artilleria, aparrjos de guerra &c. La final evacuacion del tcrritorio de la Repl1blicu, Mexicana por las fuerzas de los E stados- Unidos, quedar[l consumada i1 los tres meses del cange de las ratificaciones, 6 antes si fuere posible; compromctiendosc a Ia vcz el gobit rno mcxicano, co· mo en el articulo anterior a usar de todos los medias que estt:n en su poder para facilitar Ia total evacuacion, haccrla c6moda a las tropas americanasy promover entre elias y los habitantes una buena inteligencia. Sin embargo, si Ia ratifieacion del presente tratado par ambas partes no tuviere efecto en ticmpo que pennita que c1 embarque de las trop::ts de los E stados-Unidos se complete antes de que comience Ia estacion mal sana en los puertos mcxicanos del golfo de Mexico; en tal caso se har:i un arrcglo amistoso entre el gobierno mexicano y el general en gefe de dichas tropas, y par media de este arregto se sciialaran Jugares salubres y convenientes (que no disten de los pucrtos mas de treintu leguas) para que residan en elias hasta Ia v uelta de la cstacion sana las tropas que aun no se hayan embarcado. Y qneda entendido que el cspacio de tiempo de que aqui se habla, como comprensivo de Ia estacion mal sana, se esticnde dcsde el dia 1. 0 de Mayo basta el dia 1. o de Noviembre. Todos los prisioncros de guerra tornados en mar 6 tierra par ambas partes, se rcstituiran ft la mayor brevedad posiLle despues del cangc de las ratificaciones del presente tratado. If, however, the ratification of this treaty by both parties should not take place in time to allow the embarcation of the troops of the United States to be completed before the commencement of the sickly season, at the l\lexican ports on the Gul( of Mexico, in such case, a friendly arrangement shall be entered into, between the General-in-chief of the said troops and the 1\'Lexican government, whereby healthy, and otherwisf! suit· able places, at a distance from the ports not exceeding thirty lea~ues shall be desig nated for tl1e residence of such troops as may not yet have embarked, until the return of the healthy season; and the space of time here referred to, as comprehending the sickly season, shall be understood to extend from the first day of May to the first day of November. All prisoners of war taken on either side, on land or on sea, shall be restored as soon as practicable after the exchange of |
