Show CHAPTER TEN He took one last look at the* sun which was now dropping on the horizon, then he walked into the brick and mortar womb of hell. It was as much a burst of dark as his exit had been a burst of light. His eyes were slow to adjust as he wound his way down to the subterranean depths. He felt the shape of the small basket. Yes, it was still in his hand. He was grateful that young Samuel had thought of such a gift. Although it was intended for him, he would reserve it for Frank who would soon be in need of sound nourishment. The guard unlocked the cell door and Lathrop stepped in. "Where's Frank?" a sudden chill gripped his spine. "He died of the fever while you were gone," Turtle answered. Lathrop heard the lock of the cell door. "That can't be. He was getting better." "He took a turn for the worse," insisted Turtle. Lathrop took notice that Turtle and Spinner were acting suspiciously, as though hiding something.
