Show 78 "Where's Hannah?" asked Pennina of the Reverend. Sam and Pennina were brother and sister to Hannah. Because Hannah had always been t'he fragile one in the family, Pennina was fearful whenever Hannah fell sick. The Reverend had no sooner apprised her of Hannah's condition when the door burst open and a hush fell upon the group as a man with a pockmarked face pushed his way in the door. Lathrop recognized him immediately as the Bishop's man who had attended the butchering of Alexander Leighton. Among the ruffians accompanying him were the two men from the Stationers' Company. The band of men strategically placed themselves in the room while Tomlinson stood motionless, his eyes narrowing and searching the room for Lathrop. A smile of satisfaction reared itself on his face the moment he spotted him. Tomlinson started to stroll amongst the Puritans. The group broke""path for the impelling Tomlinson, not yet knowing how to react to the unfortunate situation that had befallen them. He stopped and picked up one of the newly printed books. An ugly scowl soon replaced the evil smile. Without, saying a word, after reading the first page and turning the pages one by one to scan the others, he raised the book high and tore out the pages, leaf by leaf. The sinister smile |
