Show 73 Lathrop had ever made. At the age of 13, Barbara was quite an accomplished musician whose musical entreaties brought much happiness to the Reverend and Hannah. She commenced the strains of an anthem. At the sound of harpsichord music, Hannah entered the room. Unnoticed by others, she had to steady herself by holding onto furniture as she walked to a pile of wool that Barbara had spun. She picked some up and sat down to work on her rug. Jane, having accidentally torn her hem just moments before, was standing quietly while Elise mended the tear. Jane was thinking of a young man from Aldersgate who had started to call on her daily. Joseph broke the silence. "Don't you wish you could've gone to the meetin with father?" he asked Samuel. "It wasn't for children," Samuel's words conveyed disappointment. -.1 "Thomas got to go!" broke in Benny. "It's too bad you weren't well enough to walk the distance, mother," Jane sympathized. As of late, Hannah's health had taken a decided turn for the worse. It was the Reverend who had insisted that she stay home this day, for in spite of her illness she would have been at his side if he hadn't insisted otherwise. |
