Show 135 "Master Pomeroy took to drinkin too much ale and lost 'is job as a weaver." Joseph wanted to be part of the discussion. "He ended up in debtor's prison!" Benny recalled. "Did drinkin too much ale affect Master Pomeroy!s freedom?" Lathrop looked at everyone. Everyone nodded in agreement. "A man of intemperance fashions his own fetters of one sort or another... How do ye judge drinkin too much ale, Barbara? "It's an evil." "How did you feel when you didn't know 'ow to tie. the latchets on yer shoes?" Lathrop's question was directed to Benny. Benny just shrugged, not knowing how to explain the frustration. "Well then, 'ow did you learn to tie them yersel?" Lathrop wanted him to answer. "Joseph showed me 'ow." "He learned fast, father." Joseph smiled at Benny. "How did you feel when you could tie your very own latchets?" asked Lathrop. "Are we still talkin about good and evil?" Benny wondered. Lathrop nodded. "Happy. I didn't have to wait for somebody else to do it," responded Benny, eager to find out what shoe latchets had to do with good and evil. |
