ABSTRACT OF THE PROCEEDINGS The S e cretary read a report on the additions that had been made to the Society's Menagerie during the month of February 1905, and called special attention to a female Kiang [Equus hemionus kiang) deposited by H.M. The K in g ; to a male Lynx (Felis lynx) from the Caucasus and a male Leopard of the Persian race (Felis pardus tulliana), received in exchange ; and to a semialbino variety of the Common Fox (Canis vulpes), received on deposit. The S ecretary also read an extract from a letter from Mrs. S. L. Hinde describing the act of a Duiker (Cephaloplius sp. inc.) killing a Partridge and devouring its head, which it was thought was committed by the animal to gratify its desire for salt. Mr. F r e d e r ick G il l e t t , F.Z.S., exhibited a photograph of a wounded Oryx (Oryx beisa) hiding in undergrowth of wood in its native haunts, in order to show the protective nature of the coloration of the animal. Mr. C. T ate R e g a n , F.Z.S., exhibited and made remarks upon a series of pencil sketches of Fishes of the Rio Negro and its tributaries made by Dr. A. R. Wallace about fifty years ago. M r . M acleod Y e a r s l e y , F.Z.S., exh ib ited a radiograph o f a liv in g Snake showing the skeletons o f two frog s it had swallowed some hours previously. * This Abstract is published by the Society at 3 Hanover Square, London- W ., on the Tuesday following the date o f Meeting to which it refers. It will be issued, free o f extra charge, to all Fellows who subscribe to the Publications, along with the ‘ Proceedings ' ; but it may be obtained 011 the day o f publication at the price o f Sixpence, or, if desired, sent post-free for the sum of Six Shillings per annum, payable in advance |
