Scales of the sides of the body yellowish with dark brown margins; a dark stripe from eye to operculum ; sometimes 7 or 8 dark cross-bars on the upper part of the body; a dark ocellus on the upper part of the base of caudal; fins unspotted. Brownish, each scale on the side of the body with a dark brown spot at the base and a yellow margin; a dark stripe from eye to extremity of operculum; a dark ocellus on the upper part of the base of caudal; spinous dorsal with 3 longitudinal series of dark spots, which increase in number to 6 on the soft fin ; anal with or without a few spots posteriorly ; caudal sometimes with dark marginal bands above and below.
