Show 881 " Q. That year did you have occasion to go down the river while the river was dry? " A. Yes. " Q. Just tell me the circumstances of that. " A. The cook apparently lost his mind, and wandered down the river during the night, and some got two white men on horseback, accompanied by Indians, and found him down close to the Colorado, so one of the white men came back and notified us; they said he was very weak. " So I drove a four- horse team down the river bed about twenty miles. " BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: " Q. You say you found him near the Colorado? " A. Yes, I think they said they found him right close to the river, and they stared to bring him back, but he was very weak, so they waited about five miles up the river until this other man could notify us. " I went down with a four- horse team; I drove the river bed. " BY MR. FARNSWORTH: " Q. Did he return the same way? " A. Yes. " MR. FARNSWORTH: Do I understand this witness drove down the river bed himself? " THE WITNESS: Yes." R. 2082- 2083. |
