Vol. 11, pp. 1982- 2035) He resides in Los Angeles, California; is sixty- six years old, and his present occupation is that of night watchman for the Los Angeles Times. He was born in central Pennsylvania and left there when he was nineteen. He went west, and has been engaged in the mining and prospecting business until the last few years During his life he has had considerable experience with boats. R. 1982. Before he started on the Stanton trip, he had quite a lot of row boat experience on eastern rivers, and the Missouri River; and the smaller Colorado rivers; and on all of the big rivers in Alaska. He has been on the Yukon River, once all the way through, and once part way through; on the Copper River, and the Tanana River and the Susitna River In the fall of 1890 he was on the Green, and the Grand or Colorado River, and previous to this time had been on the Grand [ Colorado River] almost its entire length, at different times, prospecting. When he could, he would come down the river in his boat, but generally had pack horses and saddle horses. At one time he made a trip with Frank W. Emerson, a newspaper man of San Francisco; and Charles Duke, A salesman, from Grand Junction, Colorado, to Moab, Utah, on a raft, R. 1982. " Q.
