Show 865 OTTO J. ZAHN For Complainant ( R. Vol. 11. pp. 2037- 2073) He is fifty- seven years old, and resides at Los Angeles, California. He has been in the San Juan country for a good many years, but always kept his residence in Los Angeles. He first went in to the San Juan country, he believes, in May, 1904. He went by train to Dolores [ Colorado] and to Bluff, and on to the camp by wagon. R. 2037. His camp was located on the bank of the San Juan River, about a mile or two below Nokai Canyon, and his purpose in going into the country was because of his interest in some placer mines there. On this first trip the believes he was month or six weeks in that country. He came in May, and left in June. R. 2038. He has no recollection of any other placer miners in there at that time, except John Gill the man who was with him. R. 2038- 2039. He brought in his supplies by freight wagon. R. 2039. " BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: " Q. Did you have no men working on your placer claims? " A. Mr. John Gill and myself did the work, you might say; we always hired Indians, and sometimes a few people happened to be around there. |
