Show 875 He diverted the entire stream by adding ten inches of bank above the river bed. The necessity to divert the entire stream lasted for about ten days, as he remembers it, and he would judge his pump took ten per cent of the water. There was no other occasion than the one in 1905, when he took the hopper down on the raft, that he has used the river for floating any other freight or cargo. R. 2066. His operations were confined to the years 1904 and 1905, when he was making tests. There were no other times that he took anything in except supplies, and he could pretty nearly have carried those on his back. His supplies were taken in sometimes by pack, sometimes by automobile, and sometimes somebody else would bring things in for him. R. 2067. The tool house and living house were substantially on the same level; and on the occasion of the damage done by floods, there were about two feet of sand in his tool house. R. 2068. The two feet of sand was in there before the 1911 flood. He doesn't recall just what year the two feet of sand was deposited, but he could refresh his memory. On direct examination he stated he had been back in 1907 and 1908, and several times during the last six years. He believes he was in in 1908 and 1909. He couldn't say off hand if he was in in 1910, but in the meantime he had cleaned out the two feet of sand and had reconstructed the camp. R. 2069.
