Show 878 HECTOR K. ZARN For Complainant ( R. Vol. 11., pp. 2074- 2091) He reside at Los Angeles, California; is fifty one years old, and his occupation is real estate. He went into the San Juan country in the month of May, 1902, for the Zahn- Baldwin Mining Company. R. 2074. He is a brother to Otto J. Zahn; who has just testified On this 1902 trip of his he left the railroad at Flagstaff, Arizona, and from Flagstaff went y wagon through Tuba City and Red Lake, and down to the mining property that is located about five miles down the San Juan River from Copper Canyon. It has on this trip that he had some machinery freighted in; which arrived after he got there. The machinery was brought in by team and wagon from Flagstaff, Arizona. R. 2074- 2075. The contractor who brought in this freight was named Joe Tanner. The trip from Flagstaff to the mine is about two hundred miles; and he has also been on the road out through Bluff several times. He has never seen any settlers in that country west of Bluff, living on ranches and farms. The only people he has seen were Indians. The buildings were all ready at the mine when he arrived there; but th made cote alterations. R. 2076. He brought in lumber for that purpose on wagons. On this 1902 trip he stayed in the country about three months; June, July and August. When he first arrived there the river was pretty high. |
