Did you ever have occasion to use a boat on any other occasions on the San Juan river? " A. I think two or three times, yes. " Q. Between what points, and for what purpose? " A. Well, I had a boat down in camp; sometimes I would go across the river; I found the boat was impracticable most of the time, because I could easier wads or swim across; just depends on the flow of water. " Q. Did you have one boat or several boats? " A. Just one boat, a skiff. " Q. Outside of the time you used the raft, did you ever use boats to bring supplies down from Bluff, or any other point? " A. No." R. 2050- 2051. In 1905 he believes he went on the San Juan River in April and was there for four or five months. R. 2051. The road are " just natural roads", and the trails are just like in any wild country; both north and south of the river. He has been on the north bank of the river several times, but never travelled there. There is no trail that leads up opposite Nokai Canyon, but there is one on the other side that goes up towards the Colorado River, up Clay Hill divide.
