Show Capt. Wm. A. Campbell HE main purposes of the Reserve Officers Training- Corps, are: first to develop in young Americans, self-discipline, self-reliance and the willingness to subordinate themselves, loyally and whole heartedly, to the requirements of cooperative effort; and second, to secure for them training in military technique and leadership. Due to the vast amount of training necessary to qualify as an efficient Field Artillery Reserve Officer, the student must be enlisted at the time of his entrance to the University as a Freshman, and his interest be maintained until graduation, in order to cover the essential subjects. One of the most interesting features of the training, is the summer camp, which has been held during the two previous years at Camp Knox, Ky. During the 1921 camp, thirty men from Utah represented the University.- These Utah men were found in every activity of the camp, from the Balloon observation down to the open air movies. They will never forget those days spent on the ranges, the comradeship of the barracks, the week end trips. They were able to obtain a broader vision of college life from the association with the men from the eighteen other universities and colleges represented. The technical training and the experience gained in the successful completion of the course in Military Science and Tactics, is of inestimable value to the student and the government.
