Show Considerable interest among the members of the Men's Glee Club was manifest in the try-outs for positions on the Varsity Male Quartette, held during the fall quarter. The successful contestants were: Harlan Erick-son, basso; Lynn Richards, baritone; Glen Watkins, second tenor; and Lester Rigby, first tenor. The quartette appeared at a number of concerts and programs throughout the city, as well as at a large number of student assemblies. Splendid work was performed at the concert in March, and at the presidential reception in April. Mrs. Edna Evans Johnson has been serving as instructor for the quartette, and has been instrumental in the commendable showing made at the various appearances. Ladies' (Double Quartette :: One of the most successful and prominent joint groups in the Musical Society during the past year has been the Ladies' Double and Single Quartette. This organization has made a name for itself through its splendid singing in connection with campus activities as well as in the city. The girls were engaged at the American Theatre for a three-day performattice, and in addition, assisted in the appearance of the Girls' Glee Club shortly afterwards. They also sang at Fort Douglas, the Ladies' Literary Club, Spanish and French Circles, several school plays and assemblies, and in the concert in April. The members of the Ladies' Single and Double Quartette are: Margaret Earl, Margaret Dusenberry, Ruth Barnard, Lucille Pyke, Lucille Schettler, Emmeline Lund, Leith Whip-pie, Leila Cotterell, Anna Dailey, Martha Scofield, Ethel Lind and Arvilla Lunt. University String Quartette The LTniversity String Quartette, composed of Beth Baumberger, violin ; Esther Bennion, violin; Gilbert Brox, viola; and Clifton Jacobsen, cello, has met with marked success this year, and has surpassed all previous records for similar organizations. Under the talented leadership of Miss Frances Grant, the quartette prepared a splendid repertoire of selections. Their appearances at assemblies have been received with unfeigned appreciation. The quartette's excellent performance at the concert in April was a revelation in technique and interpretation, and delightful service was rendered at the presidential inauguration ceremonies.
