Rifle Creek Area Garfield County, Colorado Location and Access The Rifle Creek area is 12 miles northeast of the town of Rifle. The mill where the ore from the deposit in this area is treated is a few miles east of Rifle. The vanadium area is on the southwest flank of the White River Pleateau, a mountainous area of high relief, The highway along Rifle Creek to the area, however, is on an easy grade; electric power is available; water is plentiful; the winters are relatively mild; and conditions In general are favorable for economic operation the year around. History The deposit was discovered in 1922 or 1923, but active development did not begin u n t i l 1926 when the property was acquired by the United States Vanadium Corporation.
