Show For the purpose of affording the greatest security and to assure the reis-sunnce of expiring plicies, it is suggested that they should be issued to the Indian agents or other Officers in charge of agencies, ncting for the Qovernment as trustee, for the benefit of the, owners of the allotments on which the im-provements are situated. The condition of the work in the field is as follows: Cheyenne Rivw.-The Cheyenne River allotments were closed once as far as field work was concerned, on October 15,1905, because all the Indians who would take land had been scheduled and their selections Surveyed. About 260 Indians had refused to take their allotments, chiefly because of the influence of Chiefs Hump and Iron Lightning, who cherished the hope that they and their following might be allowed to remove to the Tongue River conntry in Montana.
