| Show family to Conferences in Fairview Moroni and Spring City all towns in the North Sanpete Stake loved the beautiful big rock meeting houses in those towns The building in Fairview was remodeled intomore modern structure and the Moroni Meeting House burned to the ground But the Spring City bullding fortunately still stands Quarterly Church Conferences were wonderful for they meant mingling with relatives and friends whom we had not seen since the previous Conference And webe invited asfam11y between morning and afterncon sessions just as families from those towns would have dinner with us when Conferences were held in Mount Pleasant Actually Stake Conferences were almost as exciting as national holiday celebrations remember that Brother Joseph Church once attended Stake Conference children lined up inrow and tossed path as he made his way from the North the Assembly Hall Smith President of the in our town Primary flowertals in his Ward Meeting House to Church practices peculiar to the times are still vivid in ny mind Manuma wasdevoted member of the Relief Soclety which meant that she attended regular Tuesday afterncon meetings Also she wasRellef Society visiting teacher which meant that she and her companion made monthly visits to homes on their beats with basket in hand making collections for the Wardneedy and poor Housewives gave freely of their produce--a dozen eggs pound of butter Mason jars filled with home-grown fruits or in some instances quarter in cash The Tithing Office or Bishop Store House red brick building on east Main Street was the center of another prac tice peculiar to the times For church members were permitted to pay their ten percent tithe in produce Farmers brought in loads of hay stacking the hay inbarn to the rear of the Tithing Office Or perhaps they contributed sacks of grain or potatoes Church members delivering the farm produce were given proper tithe credit and in turn the produce was sold or distributed to the Wardneedy Papa respected church member andrespected farmer madepoint of delivering his choicest produce to the Tithing Office In retrospect see the old church buildings andremember church authorities long gone from our midst Andthink of the many lessons which left indelible impressions on those who listened -137 |
