Show building. With age and the effects of the elements the building feel into disrepair and has become a very unstable and dangerous structure. Because of this the county road department vacated the building and moved into a new building adjacent to the three story structure. Since that time the factory building has not been used. The building is locked to prevent individuals from entering it and being injured. The north end of the building is also fenced so as to prevent entrance from that side of the unstable structure. During the past year the shoplboiler room building was demolished by Morgan County because of safety reasons. The vinery building has been use by Morgan County to store sand, which is used in the winter to spread on the county roads. The large building adjacent to the warehouse was the kraut factory. Cabbages were stored in large wire bins outside the kraut building until they could be processed. The complete process to make cabbage into sauerkraut was preformed in the kraut factory building. The finished product was also canned in the building and then transferred to the sandstone warehouse where it was stored and later labeled. This warehouse and kraut factory buildings were purchased from Morgan City by Kelly Strong who did restoration work to the buildings and established his business, "Morgan Valley Metals L.c." in the historic warehouse. Current condition of the pea factory building Much of the roof has collapsed, the floors are unsafe as well as the staircases. Plastic sheeting has been placed over the floor to try to keep the rain and snow from further deteriorating the second floor. The exterior brick walls are crumbling in many areas and large cracks can be seen on all areas ofthe exterior and interior. |
