This was done in a building located about one quarter mile east of the sandstone building. The company prospered and out grew the facility. It was then necessary to purchase land and expand their operation. The sandstone building was then constructed in 1914-16 on ground purchased from Wallace Clark. .Until this time the land had been used as pasture and there had been no structures located there~ Other buildings were also built to accommodate all aspects of canning peas, tomatoes and cabbage. The sandstone building was primarily used to label and pack the canned vegetables in cases and to' store them until shipment. The canning business prospered and in June 1930 the buildings were sold to the Utah Packing Company who continued the business until February 1935 when the name was changed to the California Packing Corporation. This business prospered and continued to use the building until 1956 when operations were closed in Morgan. In 1963 S.J. Olsen purchased the building and in 1966 he leased it to Insta Lay Processes, a company which installed fiberglass liners in irrigation ditches and reservoirs. The business only occupied the building for about eighteen months. In 1969 4-D West, a prefabricated plastic pipe company occupied the building until 1973 when they moved their operations out of the state. Since that time the building has been vacant and is still owned by the family of S.J. Olsen. |
