Show STATE OF UTAH Calvin L. Rampton, Governor June 28, 1974 DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENT SERVICES Division of State History Melvin T. Smith, Director 603 East South Temple Salt Lake City, Utah 84102 Telephone: (801) 328~5755 Salt Lake City Board of Adjustment Salt lake City and County Building Salt Lake City, Utah 84111 Gentlemen: l'Je appreci ate very much your contri buti on in he 1pi ng to preserve Salt lake City's heritage. The conditional use allowance for State and National Register Sites will be an extremely helpful way of encouraging the preservation of the cities historic sites. The conditional use allowance for the r4cCune Mansion, which has just been 1ist~d on the Uationa1 Register of Historic Places, has provided for the preservation of this important building. Because of its hlstoric and architectural importance careful plans should be made for any changes affecting the surroundings of the mansion. While adequate parking is necessary at the site we wonder if a more favorable alternative short of tearing down the carriage house might be found. Although the carriage house alone is perhaps not as historic~11y or architecturally significant as the mansion, . it is an important part of the whole site. It does tell a great deal about the mansion and should be preserved if at all possible. Thank you for your consideration of this matter. Sincerely, Kent Pm-Ie 11 Preservation Historian KP/bm STATE HISTORY BOARD: Dr. !\Ii1ton C. Abrams, Chairman • Theron H. Luke • Juanita Brooks • Cleo L. Jensen • Howard C. Price, Jr. Dr. Delio G.
