Show 369 " A. No sir; we got our information in that respect, concerning rapids, from Dellenbaugh's book. " Q. Is your answer the same on the stretch between the end of Cataract Canyon and Lees Ferry? " A. Yes sir." R. 957. BY THE SPEICAL MASTER: " Q. If you had had those detailed maps issued by the Topographic Survey, would they or would they not have been of any assistance to you? " A. They would give us a lot of previous knowledge; they would accurately locate the rapids before we reached them; the survey party accurately located the rapids they found. BY MR. BLACKMAR: " Q. How would those maps help you to locate the sand bars and the crossing bars and the quieter waters? " A. I never knew they located sand bars, to may knowledge I didn't know there was such a thing attempted, but I do know they located the permanent rapids, and they were nearly all permanent. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: " Q. If they did chart sandbars as they do on the Coast Survey charts, I suppose it would be of assistance. " A. Yes, they would be of assistance." R. 957- 958. |
