R. 910- 911 The boat was a power boat used in part of the Hoyt trip in 1928 and had a flat bottom except near the sides, where it was rounded on the edges somewhat like a canoe. The boat had a very light draft, possibly not over three inches unloaded; loaded with about six hundred pounds and one passenger besides oarsmen, the boat would have a draft of possibly eight or nine inches. It was eighteen feet long and something over four feet wide. From Greenriver down, for a distance of less than a mile, the water is quiet. There was a rock riffle where the boat would scrape bottom occasionally and the oars would drag with a natural stroke. The motor was taken off the boat and not used going down the river because it was feared that the draft would be too great with the motor. R. 911- 912. " Q. You took the motor off? A. No took the motor off; we were afraid there would be too much draft for that stretch of river with the motor.
