Show 356 " A. Then we proceeded on, we could see the water was shallow below to the left of a large island, and it also looked shallow to the right of that island, but there was a small island with a very narrow, swift channel to the right of it; this small island was to the right and upstream from the larger island; we took the narrow channel and had a swift ride without mishap down opposite the right- hand side of the larger island, where we proceeded to the large island and made camp for the night. " I determined at this place that i could wade the right- hand channel, which seemed to be the larger channel of the two. Then after spending the night we worked on down the river. " we came to numerous gravel bars. Some of these gravel bars were typical crossing bars in an instance or tow, and in come cases we ran on to mud or sand bars." R. 914 From Little Valley, about seven miles below Greenriver, the river spreads; there are numerous channels and small islands which may be submerged in high water. The islands are gravel formation and it is difficult to determine the best channel. The swift water appeared to be the deepest and those places were chosen to boat through. In places the boat would drag bottom and the oars would drag frequently. R 915 |
