Show -2- Office of the Chief of Engineers, United States Army, Washington, D. C, December 19, 1895. Sir: The river and harbor act of August 17, 1894, provides for a preliminary examination of Colorado River, Arizona, "above Yuma to the highest point of navigation," and to comply with this requirement of the act I have the honor to submit the accompanying copy of report of December 12, 1895, by Lieut. Chas. L. Potter, Corps of Engineers, giving results of examination of said river between the mouth of Virgin River and Yuma. For reasons given, Lieutenant Potter does not consider the Colorado River between the mouth of Virgin River and Yuma as worthy of improvement by the General Government, and I concur in his views. Very respectfully, your obedient servant, W. P. Craighill, Brig. Gen., Chief of Engineers. Hon. Daniel S. Lamont, Secretary of War. |
