The Davis Dam project also provides for production and transmission of electric energy. The major project works include Davis Dam and power plant, Parker Dam and power plant, and a high-voltage transmission system with substations which provide for delivery of energy to the customers and sectionalizing of the long transmission lines. Five generating units rated 45,000 kilovolt-amperes each are installed at Davis power plant, and four units of 30,000 kilovolt-amperes each are installed at Parker. The transmission system includes approximately 1,600 miles of high-voltage transmission lines and 26 substations. The total estimated cost of the Parker-Davis project is $143,103,864, of which $129,117,317 has been expended prior to June 30, 1952. The portion of the project cost allocated to power is $106,014,361. This amount will be repaid from power revenues with interest at 3 percent. In addition, $24,044,089 allocated to irrigation and the cost of servicing the Mexican treaty will be repaid from power revenues without interest. The total net revenue as of June 30, 1952, is $11,359,945. These revenues have repaid to the Treasury 6,471,960 of the cost allocated to power and, by use of the interest component in accordance with Reclamation laws, had repaid $4,887,986 of the interest-free investment. All project works are operated and maintained by the Government forces. |
