Show CALIFORNIA DEFENDANTS Exhibit No. 1376 Identification: A.UG.5.. 1957... Admitted: EXTRACT FROM SENATE REPORT NO. $92, 70th CONG., 1st SESS. (PART 2) (1928) FROM SENATE COMMITTEE ON IRRIGATION AND RECLAMATION, TO ACCOMPANY S. 728 (FOURTH SWING-JOHNSON BILL), APRIL 9, 1928. (FROM MINORITY VIEWS SUBMITTED BY SENATOR ASHURST.) [P. 2] Ninety-three per cent of the entire area of the State of Arizona is within and constitutes 43 per cent of the total area of the Colorado River drainage basin. Arizona contributes about 30 per cent of the waters of the Colorado River. . . . [P. 19] DEMANDS UPON THE AVAILABLE WATER SUPPLY The States of the upper basin, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Utah, have reserved for their perpetual use by the Colorado River Co. 7,$GC,000 acre-feet of water. This is a somewhat larger amount of water than any Federal official has estimated will be required for their use, but Arizona is willing to concede that much water to the upper basin fo-r use at any time in the future. The evidence concerning the amount of water required for use in the upper-basin States is as follows: Col. Wm. Kelly, chief engineer, Federal Power Acre-feet Commission, (p. 1258, H. R. 2903, 192/,)........... *,$CC,GOO E. C. LaRue, hydraulic engineer, United States Geological Survey (p. Ill, Water Supply Paper No. 556, 192$).............................. 5,815,000 A. P. Davis, director United States Reclamation Service (Congressional Record, Feb. __, 1923)..... 6,590,000 Engineers representing the several States of the upper basin have estimated a maximum diversion from the Colorado River and its tributaries in those States of 9,$50,000. However this does not represent the net consumptive use which, with a return flow of 2$ per cent, would be 7,200,000 acre-feet. |
