Show BINGE DRINKING (Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey) This survey defines binge drinking as the consumption of five or more alcoholic drinks on one or more occasions during the previous month. Utah is below the U.S. median in the percentage of persons reporting binge drinking behaviors (Table 75, Figure 49). In 1992, there were eleven states that reported lower binge drinking percentages than Utah. Overall, however, this survey indicates a tendency for less binge drinking in Utah and nationwide. The greatest concentration of binge drinkers is in men between 18 and 34 years of age. Although these percentages have also decreased, they have not done so consistently and remain more than twice as high as the percentage of reported binge drinkers in the total population (Figure 50).
